Megan Tremethick

Director • Writer • Producer • Actor
Megan Tremethick is an award-winning Cornish actress, writer, director, and filmmaker whose rapid rise behind the camera has made her one of the most important emerging creative figures within the British Horror Studio. Best known to audiences as a striking screen presence, Tremethick has increasingly established herself as a serious filmmaker: disciplined, actor-focused, visually ambitious, and deeply committed to the studio’s belief in classical performance, Gothic atmosphere, and emotionally charged genre storytelling.

Her feature directorial debut, Spoiling You, marked a major breakthrough. Written and directed by Tremethick, and co-written with Lawrie Brewster, the ASMR psychological horror explores digital intimacy, parasocial obsession, control, and identity collapse. The project became a major crowdfunding success, raising £73,845 from 547 backers on Kickstarter, while public coverage has described Tremethick as having led what was, at the time, the highest-funded horror Kickstarter campaign by a female filmmaker. The film later won Best Directorial Debut at Romford Horror Festival, with its teaser trailer gaining major online attention after a Bloody Disgusting exclusive.

As a director, Tremethick is particularly attentive to performance. Her own acting background gives her a rare sensitivity when working with actors, and she has spoken publicly about the challenge of directing while playing Miss Mutter in Spoiling You, describing the importance of preparation, physicality, costume, ritual, and internal logic when shaping the character. Her process is careful, instinctive, and actor-led, rooted in the belief that horror is most powerful when performance, psychology, sound, image, and atmosphere are working together.

Tremethick’s filmmaking work extends beyond her debut feature. She co-directed A Diagnosis of Death, a segment of Amicus Productions’ In the Grip of Terror, while simultaneously directing Spoiling You. She has also directed multiple segments for the forthcoming portmanteau feature For We Are Many 2, working with performers including Nicholas Vince and Laurence R. Harvey, and has frequently assisted on British Horror Studio productions by helping shape scenes, guide actors, and support ambitious set pieces, including large-scale fantasy and battle material.

A hands-on filmmaker, Tremethick is also interested in editing, cinematography, and the full practical life of production. She is known within the studio for preparing draft edits, collaborating closely with senior editors, and remaining closely involved with camera and visual decisions on her projects. Alongside producer Paul William Kelly, she also helps run The B-Team, the experimental wing of the British Horror Studio: a space for practical training, emerging filmmakers, bold genre experiments, and hands-on production. Her influences range from classic cinema and film noir to psychological horror, J-horror, anime, and the sensual dread of the uncanny. Whether directing, writing, editing, performing, mentoring artists, or guiding actors, Megan Tremethick represents the British Horror Studio’s next generation of filmmaker: stylish, disciplined, emotionally exacting, and unafraid to make horror beautiful, intimate, and deeply unsettling.
“A rising horror auteur whose cinema blends Gothic beauty, psychological dread, and classical performance.”
