Laurence R. Harvey

Actor • Character Performer • Cinephile
Laurence R. Harvey is one of the British Horror Studio’s most singular screen presences, a performer whose unsettling intensity, dark wit, and deep love of cinema have made him a natural fit for the studio’s Gothic and noir-inflected world. Internationally recognised for his cult horror work, including The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) and The Human Centipede III (Final Sequence), Harvey has long been familiar to genre audiences as a fearless performer willing to enter cinema’s darkest and most extreme territories.

At the British Horror Studio, however, Harvey has been especially valued as a serious dramatic actor: one capable of restraint, pathos, menace, and strange, unforgettable humanity. In Black Chariot, he gives a sinister and powerful performance as Maximillian Smith, the ringleader of a failed heist and one of the film’s most disturbing presences. Within the studio, he has been described as “the Peter Lorre of the British Horror Studio”, not only for a certain physical echo of Lorre in Fritz Lang’s M, but for his ability to play unsavoury, underdog, and dangerous characters while still drawing a troubling current of sympathy.

Harvey also appears in Amicus Productions’ In the Grip of Terror as Dr Graves, bringing sinister wit, stillness, and grave authority to the film’s wraparound sequence. In Megan Tremethick’s award-winning directorial debut Spoiling You, he delivers one of his most outrageous recent performances as Miss “Kitty” Mutter, a grotesque and intensely sinister superfan whose presence helped define the film’s warped comic horror. He is also set to appear in For We Are Many 2, in a segment directed by Megan Tremethick, and brings a more comic flavour to The Slave and the General as an imperial adviser to a villainous fantasy general.

A true cinephile, Harvey’s knowledge of film history and affection for cinema’s stranger corners sit naturally beside the British Horror Studio’s own mission to revive classic atmosphere, character performance, and theatrical danger. Whether sinister, tragic, comic, or quietly unnerving, Laurence R. Harvey stands as one of the studio’s most distinctive character actors: serious, intense, eccentric, and impossible to forget.
“The Peter Lorre of the British Horror Studio.”
