Peter Mahoney

Actor • Fight Coordinator
Professor Peter F. Mahoney CBE PhD MBA FRCA is a quietly formidable presence within the British Horror Studio: stoic, observant and authoritative, the man in the corner of the room whose silence seems to carry weight. A great admirer of 1960s and 1970s British horror and science fiction, Mahoney brings to the screen the air of the sceptical professional, the police detective from some lost Quatermass sequel, or the solemn legal partner quietly dispatching a client towards a terrible Gothic appointment. That authority is not merely an affectation. Beyond his work in independent film, Mahoney has held a number of senior academic appointments and has also worked within film as an executive producer and fight coordinator.

On screen, Mahoney has become one of the studio’s most distinctive character actors, specialising in compact, ominous contributions that sharpen the atmosphere around him. For Hex Studios, he appears as Inspector Dwight in Black Chariot and as Colonel Mahoney in the eighteenth-century Gothic horror Sawney, while in The Slave and the General he performs as a formidable warlord transformed into an ominous snake-headed fiend. For Amicus Productions, he appears as the Chief Mortician in In the Grip of Terror, and he is also central to Megan Tremethick’s award-winning directorial debut Spoiling You as Inspector Barrett, a role first seen by audiences at Romford Horror Film Festival in February 2026 and set to expand in its follow-up. Mahoney also features heavily in the forthcoming Lovecraftian anthology For We Are Many 2, continuing a run of roles that draw upon his rare combination of stillness, menace, intellect and old-world British genre authority.
“A quiet, authoritative character actor whose stillness carries the weight of old British horror and science fiction.”
